Woman Crashes Into Log Truck In Weathersfield

WEST WEATHERSFIELD – A Weston woman and her dog emerged unscathed after she apparently lost consciousness while behind the wheel of her car and plowed into a log truck that was parked at the edge of Route 106 North on Monday afternoon.

West Weathersfield’s volunteer firefighters and a crew from Golden Cross Ambulance responded to the scene shortly after 3:20 p.m. but the woman, whose identity was not immediately released, turned down further medical attention, telling responders she had just come from a doctor’s appointment and had asked if she was cleared to drive before she left the office, according to Weathersfield Police Officer Jen Hutchins.

Two Swiss tourists who were traveling south along the Amsden section of Route 106 towards Downer’s Four Corners when the woman’s red BMW began to drift dangerously in her lane told police that it appeared to them as though the woman had fallen asleep in the moments before the impact. The car drove into a parked logging truck that belonged to Jim Cloud of Reading.

Cloud told The Standard that he and his crew were at a job site on the opposite side of the road working when they heard a scraping noise followed by a loud crash.
