Janice L Martin, 95

Janice Louise Martin, 95, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on the first day of spring, Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at the Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield. 

Janice was born on Aug. 31, 1922, to Edward and Mamie Held in Milwaukee, Wis. She joined a brother Donald, four years her senior. She attended schools in Menomonee Falls, Wis., graduating high school in 1940. Janice attended Whitewater State Teachers College and Prospect Hall Business College and graduated with honors in 1941. 

Janice worked at A.O. Smith in Milwaukee as a secretary from 1942-1943. Between 1949 and 1955 she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper, making her home in Minnesota, California, and Illinois where she met her husband Roy Ertler. They were married in 1955. 

In 1968 the Ertler family moved to Hollywood, Fla. Janice was a homemaker, a mother to two daughters, and the bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Miami Typesetting Company. After Roy’s passing in 1976, Janice and family moved to Fort Lauderdale where she found employment as a secretary and bookkeeper for a mirror and glass company. 

In 1978 through a mutual friend, Janice met Donald Martin from Springfield and in 1979 they were married. They made their home in Charlestown, N.H. and Springfield, until 1984 when Don retired from Jones and Lamson. In retirement, they traveled extensively throughout the United States, then came back to Springfield. Don passed away in 1992. 

Janice enjoyed helping others through volunteer work with RSVP and Community Care Network. She loved life. Her warmth, smile, and sense of humor will always be remembered. 

In addition to her husbands, Janice was predeceased by her parents, brother, a daughter, a stepson and a niece. Survivors include her daughter, Lori Lull and husband, Robin of Weathersfield, Vt.; stepson, Chris Ertler and wife, Peggy of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; nephew, Robert Mels and wife Marianne of Bartlett, Ill.; and several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-nieces and great-nephews. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Springfield Health and Rehabilitation for their compassion and care of Janice. Donations in her memory may be made to the Springfield Humane Society, 401 Skitchewaug Trail, Springfield, VT 05156. 

There will be no calling hours. A graveside memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Memorial Chapel, Springfield. 

Agnes E Hall, 95

Agnes E. Hall, 95, of Springfield, died Feb. 22, 2018, at Haven Hospice Center in Orange Park, Florida. 

She was born Oct. 29, 1922, in Springfield, the daughter of Ralph C. and Dorothy (Flanders) Wing. 

She graduated in 1941 from Springfield High School. 

On July 16, 1941, she married William J. Hall in Springfield. He died Aug. 3, 1988. 

Mrs. Hall was employed as a secretary and ward clerk at Springfield Hospital for 24 years, retiring in 1988. 

She was a member of North Springfield Baptist Church and superintendent of the church’s Sunday school. 

She enjoyed traveling and collecting angels. 

Survivors include four children David Hall, of Springfield, Carol Daniels, of Weathersfield, Judith Hall, of Minot, North Dakota, and Deborah Hall, of Middleburg, Florida; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Mrs. Hall was predeceased by four siblings Louise Carter, Janet Thomas, Richard and Edward Wing. 

The graveside service will be at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery in North Springfield. 

Memorial contributions may be made to North Springfield Baptist Church, P.O. Box 23, North Springfield, VT 05150; or the charity of one’s choice. 

Arthur T Monteith, 89

Arthur T. Monteith, 89, of Sebastian, Florida, formerly of Springfield and Weathersfield Bow, Vermont, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, at the William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Florida. 

He leaves Joanne, his loving wife of 32 years. He will also be dearly missed by his nieces Elsie, Lois and Patricia and his extended family in Florida. 

Arrangements are in the care of Davis Seawinds Funeral Service of Sebastian, FL 32958.

Ascutney Farm Stand Moving to 1765 Gulf Road!!

Ascutney Farm Stand is happy to announce that we are NOT gone we are in the process of moving from 5585 route 5 to our NEW location at 1765 Gulf Road. This location is the Sugar House on the corner of Gulf road and Route 131. We will be delayed a little in opening this year because of the move but we are excited to see all of you again soon. This is a permanent, full-time, hourly position, that offers competitive pay along with retirement, medical, dental and other benefits. Experience in road construction/maintenance or equipment/grader operation is preferred. Pay will be determined based on qualifications and experience. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings and Weather Advisories for all of Southern Vermont. Travel will be impacted statewide. This will be heavy, wet snow.
Take it easy while shoveling. Overexertion can bring on a heart attack—a major cause of death during the winter.
Check on neighbors, especially those who are elderly or who may otherwise need special assistance. Be sure heating vents are clear of snow, and during a prolonged weather event that theyhave heat, electricity, and any needed medical supplies.
