Weekly News Letter from The Principal’s Corner

Year 2 School Improvement
This is our third and final year with the WS Schoolwide Action Plan before a new plan is devised. Because we are now a Year 2 School Improvement School, we are obligated to review, revise and implement the new plan.  The first meeting to do that work will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm in the conference room.  Light snacks will be served.  If babysitting is needed, let Deb Gurney and/or me know, as the Service Group is always looking for authentic ways to help the school. We are hoping for a strong turn out, so feel free to join us even if you have never served before....the more the merrier!

Volunteers Needed
Children love to listen to adults read to them! If you have an interest in reading to a child, or having them read to you, please let us know as we have children/teachers who would love to have you volunteer to do this very thing in our school!

Supplimental Services for Students In Need
We are offering tutorial support for free and reduced lunch students who need extra help in math, reading and writing.  A letter went home recently announcing how parents can access this service and the names of tutorial providers in the state.  This information is also on our school website.  For more information, please contact the school at 674-5400.

Student Council
WS students in grades 5-8 are gearing up for this year's student council election, including speeches and voting!  Students who are interested in running for student council are meeting with Mr. Herbert, Advisor, to discuss good campaign strategies.  The actual speeches and voting will occur on October 14th during 8th period. Two student council homeroom representatives for each grade will be voted on in classes on October 15th.

October 5th Car Show
The WS PTA is sponsoring a car show to benefit the 8th grade trip to Boston this spring.  The car show will be held at the school from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 5, 2013.  There is no admission fee but donations are welcome.  Beautiful antique cars, hot rods, trucks, motorcycles, tractors, music, raffles, grilled foods, awards, and door prizes will make this a wonderful event for the entire family.  Hope to see you there!

Message to 6th Graders from Mr. Ramsey
Hello 6th graders: I found a really FUN game to help us learn the treble and bass clefs called STAFF WARS.  If you would like to use it at home, go to www.themusicinteractive.com and click on the yellow Classroom Music button on the bottom of the page.  Happy practicing! Mr. Ramsey

Happy October,
JeanMarie K. Oakman, WS Principal
