Vermont State House Will Host Day-long Arts Summit October 26

Celebration of Creativity will Explore Diverse Topics, from Copyright to Tax Reform, Arts Education to the Art of Game Design

Artists, educators, philanthropists, enthusiasts – all will participate in a state-wide arts summit Saturday, October 26 beneath the State House dome. Fifteen years since the last such gathering, keynote speaker Eric Booth will steer the summit toward outcomes that, it is hoped, can drive state-wide and local collaboration over the years to come.

Organized around the theme “Connect, Animate, Lead” the summit will feature a mix of plenary sessions, panel tracks, clinics, and social breaks.

“This summit is organized around a spirited combination of directed and undirected activities,” explains conference organizer Zon Eastes of the Vermont Arts Council, “It’s going to be a really lively opportunity for participants to meet old friends and make new acquaintances. We’ve chosen topics where people can dive deep substantively, and plenty of opportunities where we can step back and gather socially.”

Morning and afternoon tracks will include the following panels:

*      Copyright basics in the Digital Age
*      Young Leaders Discuss the Future of the Arts
*      STEM, STEAM, and the Maker Movement
*      Getting to Market or Getting the Gig
*      Making Your Data Come Alive

Social activities featured during the day include an “ARTfessional” sponsored by Google, an open lunch hour, the release of a short video profile of the late sculptor Lawrence J. Nowlan, and a closing reception.

Participants are invited to local creativity incubator Local 64 for an after-party and screening of the film, Indie Game (2012).

Hosted by actor and teaching art professional Eric Booth, the plenary sessions will serve as an opportunity to highlight key opportunities for building synergy and collaboration across Vermont’s creative economy.

The Vermont Arts Summit is organized by the Vermont Arts Council and the Office of the Creative Economy within the Agency of Commerce and Community Development.
