Helen Holmes, 59, disappeared Sept. 6. Police say she left a note asking her husband to care for their animals and that she would be back.
Police say a hiker found human remains off Route 11 in Winhall. The body has not been positively identified, but police say Holmes' car was found nearby.
The body was found with a handgun. Investigators do not suspect foul play.
