MAY 2013 NECAP SCIENCE RESULTS: GRADES 4 & 8
Dear Parents:
Enclosed you will find your child’s results of the May 2013 New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) Science test, taken by our 4th and 8th graders. The NECAP is a comprehensive standardized test that measures your child’s performance in Earth and Space Science, Physical Science, Life Science, and Inquiry. This is the 6th year the Science NECAP has been administered. The tests were devised by the three states as part of each state’s statewide assessment program in meeting the No Child Left Behind federal requirement.
Weathersfield School will use the results of the NECAP to assess the strengths and needs of the teaching curriculum as a whole, and to ensure that our children continue to receive an education which addresses the Vermont Grade Level Expectations. This data will also help teachers and administration revise curriculum and instruction in a way to increase student success.
Results of the Science NECAPS will be reviewed again at School Report Night in the spring. Mrs. Oakman and Mrs. Sprague will be available if you wish to ask specific questions relative to their scores before then. At School Report Night, we will share tips on how students can prepare for these tests, what parents can do to support their children in getting ready for these high stakes tests, and we will tell you what the school is doing to prepare students throughout the school year to do well on standardized assessments.
A copy of your child’s NECAP assessment results has been filed in your child’s permanent school record. If you have any questions about the contents of this report, and are unable to attend School Report Night, please feel free to contact your child’s current classroom teacher or either of us.
