Weathersfield News, Week of October 7, 2013

It been a nice couple of weeks weather-wise, with beautiful foliage and great temperatures. Today, Sunday, as I am writing this, there is a cold, dampening rain pouring off and on. The horses were outside shivering. After Levi cleaned stalls and water buckets, I brought the horses in, rubbed them down and gave them some hay to eat. They are happily munching away in their stalls.

The weather held of long enough to celebrate Jayda's 9th birthday on Saturday. Many family and friends showed up. The 'official' day is Tuesday, but that just means she just get more than one day to celebrate!

Last weekend was the first weekend of archery season. I have seen a buck or two go by in the back of a truck, but, so far, there isn't one hanging from our tree. Yet. (So my husband keeps telling me.) Not as if I want another animal to process at this time... we just put another pig in the freezer so that means two days of grinding sausage. Two more pigs to go next weekend and we will be done for the year! Then it will be on to the turkeys.  Hopefully there will be a deer or two in between.

Lots to do in and around Weathersfield this Columbus Day Weekend. Many places to go, things to do! Keep your eyes open for postings!

The Weathersfield Conservation Commission is hosting a Wildlife Photo Contest. The deadline has been extended to Friday, October 18th. The photo must be taken in Vermont, limited to a native animal and be taken by an amateur. For more information, or to view full contest rules, please visit www.weathersfieldvermontnews.blogspot.com or weathersfieldvt.org .

Construction is still happening on Route 131. They have, however, paved the majority of the surface from the Interste in Ascutney to Piper Road. It sure has made traveling across town much easier and less dusty. We still have a ways to go, though. This is only the first paving. My understanding is that, in some places, it will be paved not only twice but three times. Certainly will be easier in the winter for the plow crews to keep it clear if it isn't dirt.

Enjoy the rain now, while you can. Snow is on the way. It snowed Saturday in Nebraska and Anchorage, Alaska. All my outside things aren't put away yet... glad it's just rain today!
