Welcome, November. With the weekend being warm, this cold snap Monday
morning is quite brisk. The wood stove is heating the house nicely. The
view out the window is quite nice. The crocheting is coming along
nicely. I could easily become a hermit and stay inside until spring gets
here... only another 135 days to go!
So, according to my sister
(in her daily updates) there are 50 days left until Christmas. The
holiday decorations and embellishments are in the stores and beginning
to be displayed. Sigh. I know that some people love Christmas and the
holidays, but I would prefer, myself, that it were more focused on the
family gathering together than on the presents, decorations and menu.
Don't
get me wrong. I love seeing the children opening their presents, the
surprises and memories. My wish is that we all continued that kind of
sharing and enjoyment of each other all through the year. Not just at
Christmas time.
Budget season is upon us and committees are
meeting. Along with the cold
and it being dark by 5 pm (thanks to daylight savings time) it's quite
dark and dreary. This must be one reason why all the holiday decorations
are up. To brighten the dark corners and cheer everyone up!
My
granddog, Bella, broke her leg while running and playing in her yard, by
herself, about 6 weeks ago. After numerous re-casting (no, Bella, your
cast isn't a chew toy!!!) and various complications, she had x-rays that
showed her bone has not set enough to go to a soft cast. Therefore, she
is another 6 weeks in a hard cast, having her cast and leg decorated
with plastic bags every time she goes outside. Being carried (almost 70
pounds!) up and down the stairs to the front door. Being isolated and
not able to visit her friends at the Grandmothers's houses and play with
her furry friends. Heal, Bella, heal!!!
The horses and goats
have very fuzzy coats! It's wonderful to bury my nose and fingers into
the necks and breath the warm horse smell as they bask in the sun in the
afternoons.
The turkeys are soon to be headed into the fridge and
freezer. I think we might have another record breaker this year. Two
years ago our largest bird weighed 36 pounds, dressed to go in the oven
(with no stuffing). He barely fit!
As this holiday season starts
winding up, please don't forget to take a little time to sit and reflect
on the wonderful blessings in your life. Enjoy the moments with friends
and family. Make plans to continue your get togethers long after the
Christmas lights and decorations have been put away for another year.
Life is short so enjoy each other!
