As you know, there is a new law that requires schools to
practice lock down drills every other month, (6 in all).
We take safety very seriously in this school and we make sure to conduct at least one drill a month, including fire, evacuation, lock down and bus drills.
Today, at 8:35 am, we conducted a Clear the Hall Secure the Building, Internal Threat drill. The children and staff knew of the new drill in advance, so they could recap important safety procedures during Morning Meeting.
We have notified students and staff in advance of every single drill thus far this school year, and will do so until January.
By January, even our littlest students should be skillful and practiced and able to follow protocol without rehearsals or prior warning, just like in a real threat.
Today, within seconds of the announcements, not a sound could be heard in this school. Every door inside and out was locked, so entry could not be gained.
When I announced the “All Clear” command, I praised the staff and students for doing an excellent job. I am so very proud of them and how seriously they take these practice drills.
Thanks,
JM
