Weathersfield News, Week of December 29, 2013

I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday season! We had multiple family gatherings, lots of fun and conversations, too much food and some presents thrown into the mix!

As the last week of 2013 comes to an end, I've taken some time to reflect on the past year. There have been many gatherings for dinner, time spent volunteering in the community, working with my animals, sad times and happy times.

Looking forward to 2014, I want to continue to do some things more: more time spent with friends and family, more horse back rides, continue volunteering for my community, sticking to my eating plan a little more closely and not stress so much about things I cannot control or change.

Thank you to Ed and Susan Whittemore for allowing the Weathersfield Food Shelf to be located at the Country Creemee for January through April. Thank you, also, to the Reading Food Shelf for supporting the families in Weathersfield while there was no local food shelf!

Anyone interested in working at the food shelf as a distribution worker, there will be an introductory gathering at the Country Creemee at the intersection of Routes 131 and 106 on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 4:00PM.

The following items are being suggested for donation to the Weathersfield Food Shelf:
Canned vegetables, canned fruits, non-sugar cereal, rice, pasta, canned meats, tuna, canned beans, peanut butter, boxed milk, fruit juice and bottled water.

For more information or to arrange drop off of any donations, please contact deForest Bearse at 674-2626 or 674-5431. Donations are accepted any time (during open hours) at: Weathersfield Town Office/Martin Memorial Hall and Ascutney Post Office.

The Weathersfield Food Shelf is scheduled to be open the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 4 pm to 6 pm. Visit the web site at: WeathersfieldFoodShelf.org

How would you like to give away new, free, books?

On the night of April 23rd, Shakespeare's birthday, thousands of people give away free books - it is called, World Book Night and there is information posted on the library's website. WeathersfieldProctorLibrary.org

Anyone can sign up to be a book giver, but applications close on January 5, 2014. You may select a title from a large list and your books will be delivered to the closest pick up point - your library, WPL has signed up to be a pick up point for World Book Night 2014.

Then the fun begins!  On April 23rd you give away books. Maybe to folks who don't have the opportunity to purchase books or folks who are not avid readers, people you work with, or just passersby.

If you are interested, here is a link to more information.  http://www.us.worldbooknight.org/how-do-i-get-involved/be-book-giver-us

Last year in my town there were folks outside the town hall giving away books - it was a wonderful sight!  Where would you go to give away books?

Happy Holidays from Nancy, Director of the Weathersfield Proctor Library

Well, it's been a joy to write about Weathersfield this year. I look forward to continuing on in 2014. I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year celebration! Please do NOT drink and drive. The life that may be saved might be someone that I love :)
