More than 20,000 Vermonters lost power last night due to severe thunderstorms that started Wednesday evening and didn’t end until early Thursday morning.

Green Mountain Power reports there are 8,597 people still without power as of 10 a.m., 140 households in Woodstock do not have power, 197 in Hartland and 269 in Killington.
Hartland Elementary School is cancelled today.

Crews worked through the night and extra crews are arriving Thursday to continue working. Some of the hardest hit areas may not be restored until Thursday night or Friday.
