Weathersfield News, Week of 9/9/13

Brrrrr. It has been downright chilly a few mornings this last week. Fall is in the air. Leaves are starting to change color and falling off of the trees already. The weather forecast is for warmer temperatures during the week. Enjoy the warm days and sunshine. I think we are in for a long, cold winter. The horses and pony are already starting to get fuzzy. Nature is certainly predicting colder weather headed our way.

This week marks the 12th anniversary of the planes crashing into the twin towers in New York City. Do you remember where you were? I was in my youngest daughters classroom, delivering chocolate pudding cups for her birthday snack for 2nd grade. Emma was eight years old that day.

I watched the second plane hit the second tower standing in the hallway of the elementary school with some teachers and administrators. My heart - then and now - was shocked and devastated by this brazen act. My prayers continue for those family's who lost loved ones and whose lives were changed forever because of this tragedy.

School has started! Backpacks are filled, sneakers are tied (hopefully :) and lunch boxes are packed. Be cautious when driving and please watch for school buses. A few moments of your time could save the life of a child.

The former Weathersfield Elementary School is undergoing a big change. It is currently in the process of having all hazardous materials removed. The Select Board will vote in the near future as to who will win the bid to demolish the school. The original brick school house will remain.

I'm headed out now to go kayaking. Might be one of the last few times in Vermont this season. Enjoy the foliage!
