Weathersfield Conservation Commission is sponsoring a wildlife photo contest.
The rules for the contest are: Subject limited to native wildlife, birds or insects. Three age groups: 3-12, 12-18 and over 18, and Limited to amateur.
One submission per person must be on an 8x10 glossy, can be dropped off at the Weathersfield Town Office in Ascutney, VT, in an envelope plainly marked Conservation Commission Photo Contest.
Envelope must contain the following information: Name, address, age, phone number and location where the photo was taken.
All submission will be displayed at the 2013 annual meeting of the Weathersfield Historical Society at the Weathersfield Center Meeting House.
The winning photo in each age group will be mounted, framed and displayed for one year at the Weathersfield Town Office, Town Library or Town School, then returned to owner in mounted condition.
Submission deadline is September 15, 2013.
Some basic recommendations for young people - almost every critter in Vermont, at some point, visits bird feeders. Feeders need to be out of reach of black bears. If it is on a wire, squirrel access will be somewhat limited. The feeders should be easily visible from locations where you spend a lot of time. Taking photos of wildlife requires patience. You need to be sure your camera is ready, your batteries are fresh or recharged, and you know where it is!
That winning photo may be once in a lifetime opportunity.
