Here is a quick and concise analysis of
the recent survey sent to you on July 1, 2013, regarding Safety and
Organizational Improvements/Changes slated for FY 14 in our school. Thank you for your thoughtful feedback!
We had a 20% response rate, which is excellent! Please know that this
information will be more fully explored with our school board at our
next meeting on July 15th at 6:30 pm in the all purpose room.
Thanks for caring!

Survey Results
25 people responded to the survey out of the 124 people who received it electronically.
23 responders felt that the safety and
organizational changes were fair and necessary. Two people felt the
changes were excessive or the focus should be on something other than
safety.
5 responders felt that the new changes did not go far enough and should be more restrictive in the name of safety.
Thirteen responders suggested other safety/organizational concerns we needed to consider:
* storm shelter
* emergency plan for when bus is off school property
* a better dismissal plan for parent pick-up, (staff bring children to parents who are in cars)
* have a safety audit done
* make sure WS staff has emergency training
* increase interactions with parents and school personnel
* be more welcoming about parents coming into classroom informally
* plan for uniting parents and students later in the day, (afterschool programs and sports)
* explain and enforce how AM drop off works
* host a parent meeting to explain these changes face to face
* better parking plan
* obesity prevention should be a higher priority
* shared use of the school facility with the town
* nurse's office should not be used as an open health clinic
* stop the adults roaming of the halls during school hours, especially in the morning and at dismissal
* paint handicap parking places so they are well marked
* paint the fire lane so it is better marked
Fourteen people said we do these things well and should not lose sight of how important they are:
^ Kids!
^ Safety!
^ Making WS a wonderful and welcoming school
^ Teachers are professionals, treat them as such
^ Remember that teachers are busy all day and may not get a chance to check emails; a response with 24 hours is reasonable
^ Meetings between teachers and parents are calmer and more productive when planned
^ Making parents and community members welcome and comfortable
^ The many opportunities we have to weigh in on matters and give feedback - never stop asking and inviting
^ A safe, secure and lovely school facility
^ Keeping children calm and centered during fire drill and lock down practices
