SPRINGFIELD — Springfield High School Principal Bob Thibault said Thursday the school would be open late this afternoon for students who want to talk about the recent death of student Casey Wing.
Wing, 15, died Saturday night in a fall at the North Springfield Flood Control Dam. Her body was discovered Sunday morning.
Wing is a daughter of Wesley Wing, who was shot to death in April not far from the high school in a neighborhood dispute over drug dealing.
While not mentioning Casey Wing by name, Thibault said that the loss of a “member of the school community” had hit many hard.
Thibault said the school will open its doors at 5 p.m. for students who would like to come in, be with classmates and talk to counselors.
“By joining together in this way, we can bring some level of comfort and support to the school community,” he said.
Police said Casey Wing’s death is under investigation, but they don’t suspect foul play.
