Update On: Suspect Arrested Following NH/VT Pursuit (Published in today’s paper)
CLAREMONT, NH–On Monday, April 10, as part of the investigation into the robbery which occurred at Walmart on April 7, Claremont Police attempted to stop a vehicle at approximately 3:30 a.m. It was believed the suspect in that case was operating the vehicle. There were active warrants for this person in the state of Vermont, and he has a suspended license. This person was identified as Wayne Keough, 39, of Windsor, VT. The Claremont Police Department ended the pursuit at the Vermont/ New Hampshire border. Vermont State Police located the vehicle on Route 12, in the Town of Weathersfield.
Keough was allegedly operating a 1999 Jeep Cherokee. He failed to stop for the officer, and the officer pursued him through Claremont. The pursuit traveled through Claremont and then into the state of Vermont where the pursuit was terminated by Claremont Police. The driver refused to stop, and troopers initiated a pursuit. The vehicle traveled down Interstate 91 south, at speeds reaching 120 miles per hour, said law enforcement. The vehicle traveled off of Interstate 91, and continued into the Town of Springfield, VT. The vehicle crashed in the Town of Springfield, and the operator allegedly fought with the troopers involved. Keough was arrested and transported to the Springfield Police Department for processing. Keough was transported to the Southern State Correctional Facility for active warrants that he had. Keough was a person of interest based on the video of the robbery, said Claremont Police Chief Mark Chase. Claremont Police has additional evidence on the robbery, and at this time there are active warrants for Keough for Robbery – Class A Felony and Reckless Conduct – Class B Felony.
“The warrants have been supplied to the State of Vermont. Keough has a number of charges in Vermont at this time where he is being held, and it is the intention of the State of NH that when Keough has completed his sentence that he be held and returned to the State of NH to answer to these charges and any other that are filed against him,” said Chase.
Bail was set at $1,000. According to the VSP, Violations charged included DUI, Gross Negligent Operation, Attempting to Elude, Resisting Arrest, driving license suspended.
He was expected to make a court appearance today.
