Weathersfield News, Week of 12/9/2013

Welcome, Winter!

The freezer is full, most of the wood is stacked, some in the basement, the yard furniture and toys are in the barn, the horses are snuggled in their stalls munching on hay, and I have a day with only one thing on the schedule - bring it on, Dion, bring it on!!!

Muzzle loader season is underway. The last of the hunting season for this year. I know the snow will help with hunting and tracking. A few more days left to fill those empty tags and freezers!

I have nothing against snow. Nothing against winter. I just have a hard time breathing when it gets cold. Silly me, I really like breathing.

I do love watching it snow - through the window. Sitting next to the warm wood stove, snuggling with my dogs, crocheting blankets and socks. It's beautiful, covering the trees of the hill across the road from our house. Especially if there is nothing on the calendar and I don't have to go out in it.

The Weathersfield Knit/Crochet Group has started! We meet Monday's from 1-2:30 at the Perkinsville Church, Thursday's from 1-2:30 at Martin Memorial Hall/Weathersfield Town Office. All are welcome to join us. Bring your latest project to show everyone. Don't know how to knit or crochet? We'll help you learn. (Please bring your own materials.) Don't have a project at this time? That's ok, you can help us with our community project while you are figuring out what to do next.  Questions? Contact Lynn Esty at 263-9441 or email lynnesty@comcast.net

Due to the generous response from Weathersfield residents who support the efforts of the Weathersfield Food Shelf, Inc., the Food Shelf will reopen in January to serve their neighbors in need of assistance in feeding their families.  The 1879 School in Perkinsville is not ready to be occupied, therefore, the Food Shelf will be open from 4:00-6:00 pm, on the 2nd & 4th Thursday of each month, at a temporary location to be announced shortly.  Meanwhile, a rotating group of volunteers is being organized to staff the Food Shelf during their hours of operation.  Anyone who wishes to help may contact Janet Gould @ 674-9365.

The Weathersfield Food Shelf, however, is urgently seeking a heated space in Weathersfield to temporarily set up the food shelf.  If you have space that is immediately available, please contact deForest Bearse at 674-2626.  The Food Shelf can offer up to $400 per month for the space.

Please help them feed the 20 families that are in need in Weathersfield. No one should go hungry, especially in our Town.
