Why We Need Your Help:
Should
an evacuation be ordered as a result of an event at the Vermont Yankee
nuclear power plant, the Vermont & the New Hampshire Upper Valley
American Red Cross must be prepared to shelter
approximately 6,000 people. This will involve up to 25 shelters
and approximately 2,000 trained volunteers. This simply cannot be
accomplished without the active involvement of engaged individuals,
civic organizations and faith-based groups.
Course Details:
Shelter
Fundamentals is a basic level course that introduces the guidelines and
procedures for opening, operating and closing a shelter during a
disaster. Class participants will work on a case
study that takes them through the four key phases of the
Sheltering Cycle. The training is four hours and is provided by the Red
Cross without cost to participants.
