Want to Help in an Emergency???

SHELTER FUNDAMENTALS

Become a trained volunteer in just 4 hours!

Date and Time:
Wednesday, April 16th, 2014
5:30pm to 9:30pm
Location:
Waterbury Congregational Church
Dining Room
8 North Main St. Waterbury, VT 05676

Why We Need Your Help:
Should an evacuation be ordered as a result of an event at the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant, the Vermont & the New Hampshire Upper Valley American Red Cross must be prepared to shelter approximately 6,000 people. This will involve up to 25 shelters and approximately 2,000 trained volunteers. This simply cannot be accomplished without the active involvement of engaged individuals, civic organizations and faith-based groups.

Course Details:
Shelter Fundamentals is a basic level course that introduces the guidelines and procedures for opening, operating and closing a shelter during a disaster. Class participants will work on a case study that takes them through the four key phases of the Sheltering Cycle. The training is four hours and is provided by the Red Cross without cost to participants.
