WINDSOR, Vt. - There may be a major development in a Vermont homicide case.

The Kansas Highway Patrol told WCAX they attempted to pull over a car Wednesday night matching the vehicle tied to 27-year-old Jason Kendall of Windsor. Police say the vehicle also had Massachusetts plates with stolen tags.

Authorities say the driver led officers on a high-speed chase and was eventually stopped with spike strips.

Investigators say the car crossed the median and crashed through a fence before coming to a stop.

When the highway patrol approached the car they found the driver dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

While authorities did not confirm that the individual was Kendall they say the suspect did have a warrant out for a homicide in Vermont.

Vermont authorities say Kendall shot the mother of his child, 22-year-old Molly Helland in Windsor Monday morning and fled the scene.

Police say Helland had just ended her relationship with Kendall.
