State Police Investigators Still Searching for Jason Kendall in the Death of Molly Helland

Windsor, VT - June 8th, 2015

This morning, June 8th, 2015 at approximately 7:00 am, the Windsor Police Department responded to a 911 call from a caller who reported hearing screams and gun shots in the area of 43 Main Street in the town of Windsor, VT.

Upon arrival, a Windsor Police officer discovered an adult female lying on the ground outside the residence next to a vehicle. The female victim appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds.

Windsor Fire Department responded to the scene and immediately began resuscitation efforts, however the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim was subsequently identified as Molly Helland (age 22) of Windsor, VT.

The Windsor Police Department requested assistance of the Vermont State Police. Uniform Troopers responded along with detectives from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The VSP Major Crime Unit is leading this investigation.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, Helland recently ended a relationship with her boyfriend, Jason Kendall (age 27) of Windsor. Helland and Kendall have a child together and Helland had recently been living with her parents at 43 Main Street in Windsor.

 Kendall is believed to be driving a 1996 Honda Accord, silver in color, bearing VT registration EAR558. A vehicle matching the description was seen leaving the area of 43 Main Street shortly after the shooting occurred.

Investigators are attempting to locate Kendall for questioning.

*****Recent information indicates that Kendall may have changed license plates on this vehicle, possible MA registration 842YM3. *****

The Vermont State Police Crime Scene Search Team has been activated to process the crime scene.

The victim will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.
