PRESS RELEASE

UPDATE: 6/11/2015 WINDSOR HOMICIDE

The Vermont State Police continue to investigate the Homicide of Molly Helland in Windsor, VT. Investigators are working with Kansas Highway Patrol-Troop D and Kansas Bureau of Investigations (KBI). Yesterday afternoon, a 1996 Silver Honda Accord was traveling west on I 70 in Wakeeney, KS.

Kansas Highway Patrol attempted to stop this vehicle for speeding, traveling 87 mph in a 75 mph zone. A pursuit of this vehicle ensued, reaching speeds as high as 105 mph at times.

The vehicle eventually crashed, the lone male occupant found deceased of a gunshot wound. KBI and the Vermont State Police have worked jointly and have positively identified the lone occupant of this vehicle as Jason Kendall, age 27, of West Windsor, VT.

An arrest warrant was issued for Kendall early Tuesday morning, June 9, 2015 , for Second Degree Homicide. This was the result of an investigation into the death of Molly Helland on June 8, 2015 in Windsor, VT.

Investigation in Kansas revealed the 1996 Silver Honda Accord bore one MA registration front plate, stolen from Holyoke on Monday June 8, and a second (different) MA registration rear plate, taken from a residence a short distance from the location from where the first plate was stolen.

The second MA registration plate was never reported stolen and not known to be missing until the events in Kansas revealed these facts.

Kendall possessed a .243 caliber rifle in his vehicle.

This firearm is believed to have been used in the murder of Molly Helland as well as the firearm Kendall used to take his own life.

Investigation continues with the cooperation of the Windsor Police Department, New Hampshire State Police, Claremont (NH) Police Department, Windsor County States Attorney, Massachusetts State Police, Holyoke (MA) Police Department, Springfield (MA) Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Bureau of Investigations as well as many other law enforcement agencies Between the northeast and the Midwest.

The Vermont State Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation.
