Weathersfield News, Week of August 8

Another wonderful week. Summer is slipping by way too fast. Thanks to my cousins' husband,Tim and son, Levi, and my husband, Mike, we finally got all the flowering weeds pulled from the garden. The pumpkins are getting big; snap peas, green beans, zucchini, summer squash and onions are growing well. The potato's are almost ready to be dug up. I love harvesting all these fresh vegetables. The first batch of zucchini relish is in the fridge, waiting to be rinsed and finished tomorrow.

Our family cookout was wonderful, as usual. I love having the kids all running around and playing, everyone visiting and great food!

Congratulations to Roger and Ruth Newhall. Their children hosted a 50th wedding anniversary party for them on Saturday. They were told it was a birthday party for a Wes Hazeltine.  Happy Birthday, Wes!

Only a few more weeks before school is starting. First day of school for Weathersfield is August 26. It is a full week of school. I remember these days. My girls would be counting down the days left!

The Route 131 updates now include blasting.
Drilling & Blasting and Excavating– Route 131 Victory Drive to Graveline Road
Blasting will occur in the ditches along Route 131 for the installation of new underdrain between Victory Drive and Graveline Road throughout the week.  Blasting will likely occur several times a day during normal work hours.
Blasting mats will be used to cover the shot area to contain flying debris.
Blasting Signals:  Crews will sound a horn as follows:
Pre-Blast -    3 consecutive signals – 5 minute warning
2 consecutive signals – 1 minute warning
Post Blast – 1 signal – all clear to enter the blast zone
Blasting Traffic Control – Traffic within the blasting area will be held for 5 minutes before the actual blast and then continue to be held post blast until the roadway is cleared of debris and rebuilt for safe passage.  Each blast will bring different results so the wait time after blasting is unknown at this time.  Traffic delays could likely exceed 10 minutes.

Hawks Mtn. Grange on Old Center Street in Perkinsville is having a Baked Bean Supper on Saturday, August 10 from 5 pm to 6:30 pm. Menu is: Baked beans, potato salad, hot dogs, coleslaw, roll, dessert and beverage. Price: Adults $10.00  Children 6-12 $5. Under 6 free.
The summer reading program ends next week, August 14th, at the Weathersfield Proctor Library. There are weekly prize winners and will be grand prize drawings at the Pizza Party Finale, Wednesday, from 6:40 to 7:30 pm.

The select board is waiting to approve the bids for the demolition of the Weathersfield Elementary School. I'm sure that there will be more information presented at the Select Board meeting on Monday evening.
