Route 131 Update - Week of August 12, 2013

Work Update
Weathersfield Route 12/131
AOT Project No:  2913(1)
Week of August 12th, 2013
Traffic Safety Warning – Crews are asking motorists who are exiting driveways or businesses on Route 131 to be aware that they may be pulling into a construction zone.  With the milling construction zone taking up to a mile of one lane, a flag person may not be stationed in the exact area to assist someone in pulling out. If there is no flagger present, motorists should wait for traffic flow in the direction they want to go before pulling out.

The construction zone will be marked with orange cones along the centerline.

VT Route 131 – I91 Interchange to Downer’s Corners
Reclamation – Crews will start reclaiming the roadway on Tuesday or Wednesday at Golf Road (West) and work their way East towards Jarvis Road throughout the week.  Reclaiming consists of rototilling the existing milled pavement leaving the roadway a gravel surface.  Motorists are encouraged to reduce speed and use caution when driving over the gravel roadway.

Milling – Milling crews will return to the project on Friday and work between Golf Road (West) and work west to Downer’s Corners.

Drilling & Blasting and Excavating– Route 131 Victory Drive to Downer’s Corners
Excavation crews will follow the blasting crews and install new drainage along Route 131.

Blasting will continue in the ditches along Route 131 for the installation of new underdrain between Victory Drive and Downer’s Corners throughout the week.  Blasting will likely occur several times a day during normal work hours.

Blasting mats will be used to cover the shot area to contain flying debris.

Blasting Signals:  Crews will sound a horn as follows:
Pre-Blast -    3 consecutive signals – 5 minute warning
2 consecutive signals – 1 minute warning
Post Blast – 1 signal – all clear to enter the blast zone

Blasting Traffic Control – Traffic within the blasting area will be held for 5 minutes before the actual blast and then continue to be held post blast until the roadway is cleared of debris and rebuilt for safe passage.  Each blast will bring different results so the wait time after blasting is unknown at this time.

Traffic delays could likely exceed 10 minutes.
