Body found in Proctor ID'd as missing woman

PROCTOR, Vt. -

A grim discovery Friday morning in Proctor-- police say a body turned up near the Otter Creek and has been identified as a missing Vermont woman.

Investigators say the woman's body has been positively identified as Maryann Foster.

The 59-year-old Proctor woman disappeared in late February after dining with her boyfriend. Police searched for Foster several times since she vanished, including going door-to-door looking for clues. They also put a dive team in Otter Creek near Foster's Meadow Street home.

Investigators now say her body was discovered around 8 a.m. Friday near the Proctor hydroelectric plant. They say plant maintenance workers found Foster's body along the banks of the nearby Otter Creek and called 911.

Criminal investigators and the crime scene search team responded to the scene. They're being very tight-lipped about the direction this case will take. They have not said whether foul play is suspected.

Investigators are working with the medical examiner to determine how and when Foster died.

They're asking that anyone with information to call Vermont State Police in Rutland at 802-773-9101 or submit an anonymous tip at www.vtips.info.
