Summer has arrived in Grand style! The heat and humidity showed up right on
time, also. The thunder storms and their flashes of lightening are wonderful. I
love hearing rain on a metal roof. The chickens are loving the fact that I am
catching up with the weeds in the garden.
Baby turkeys arrived last week
and they are already starting to grow. We had our first meal of broccoli out of
the garden for dinner last night. Absolutely delicious. Nothing like fresh
picked vegetables right from the garden to the dinner table. The zucchini and
summer squash are growing already, the peas aren't too far behind and the potato
plants are getting huge.
A busy time of year. Lots of meetings in the
last couple of weeks, end of the fiscal year at the end of this week. New
budgets will be in place across Vermont next Monday. Those in charge of the
money will be sighing with happiness as they can now start ordering supplies
again!
School is out, so please be careful for children. They don't think
or look before heading into the road to catch the soccer ball.
The Summer
Reading Program for the Weathersfield Proctor Library has a special incentive to
sign up early! The New Hampshire Motor Speedway has generously donated a
FAN-tastic racing experience at the Speedway for four people for the Dig Into
Reading Summer Reading program. We will draw two winners. Each winner will
receive two tickets to EXTREME Saturday, July 13 at New Hampshire Motor
Speedway. A $100 value! The drawing will be held on Saturday, June 29th at
6:00pm. You can sign up at the library or by sending an email to WeathersfieldProctorLibrary@gmail.com
(You must be a town of Weathersfield resident or Weathersfield Proctor Library
card holder to register.)
Also, motorcycles are enjoying the sunshine and
warmth. Weathersfield had a very bad accident near Downers Four Corners the
other night and the passenger on the motorcycle was killed. Let's all share the
road, together... but each on our own sides. There is nothing as important as
arriving to your destination. I don't know any particulars, but put down your
cell phones, turn down the radio and pay attention to where you are driving...
it only takes a second to change someones life forever.
I saw a young
woman riding her horse down 131 the other night. There were some drivers,
especially the tractor trailer, that slowed down, gave the horse some room, and
didn't do anything to cause extra noises. I can't say the same for the guy in
the pick up behind him :( The horse was very calm, the rider focused and they
did wonderful! Please remember that, according to VT law, horses have the right
of way. Be cautious and courteous when passing horses and riders on the
road.
The moon was beautiful out last night. The pool was delicious and
cool after the sweltering day yesterday. The air conditioner on low was the
perfect compliment to the warmth from outside. What a beautiful start to summer!
