WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. - Hartford Police say a body was found near
the White River Junction Amtrak station. The body was laying on the
railroad tracks about 100 yards from the station.
The victim
52-year-old Scott Smith was discovered by a slow moving northbound train
operated by New England Central Railroad. Police say another
unidentified train may have came into contact with Smith without
realizing it.
Smith was given a verbal trespass warning on
September 25 for going on railroad property. Police say on September 27,
they issued a criminal citation after being found on railroad property
again.
Anyone who came into contact with Smith within 24 hours
of his death is asked to contact the Hartford Police Department at
(802)-295-9425.
Police are reminding the public that railroad
property is privately owned and entering without authorization is
extremely dangerous and constitutes as a crime of unlawful trespass.
