WEATHERSFIELD — The town of Weathersfield and the Southern Windsor County Regional Planning Commission will hold a public meeting at the Highway Garage on Aug. 31 in order to hear from citizens about what would make Weathersfield a better place to live.
In December, the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development (VACCD) announced its award of $8,807 to Weathersfield as part of a municipal planning grant.

According to VAADC, “Weathersfield will obtain expert assistance to help develop a plan and strategies to leverage recent water system improvements to attract new businesses to its two village centers,” through the grant. The total project cost is $9,210, and will fund a planning process.

At a Weathersfield Selectboard meeting on July 17, the board announced that a survey conducted in November indicated that respondents were in favor of village revitalization. A second survey, which will be distributed in September and October, will attempt to determine “what revitalization actually means to those who respond.”
Surveys will be available to both visitors and residents, who can weigh in on what is already favorable in Weathersfield, what is missing, and what type of revitalization they’d like to see in the town. Surveys will be at the library, the Weathersfield Inn, the Town Office, and at least one location in Perkinsville that is to be determined.
Following the village center workshops and the fall surveys, each village center will have a second workshop. The results of the surveys and public meetings will be compiled as an addendum to the town plan, with a public meeting on the findings to follow. A draft of updates to the town plan is slated for March, and a review with the planning commission is planned for April. Grant activities are scheduled to be complete in May.
