National Missing and Unidentified Person System - Free to Public

FORT WORTH -- NamUs is trying to reach even more families impacted by the disappearance of a missing loved one.
NamUs, also known as the National Missing and Unidentified Person system is a database not only for law enforcement, but it's also free to the public.
NamUs provides data management, analytical support, and forensic resources for missing and unidentified cases.
"We have had family members come into the NamUs data base and run searches that have resolved their own cases, said BJ Spamer, Director of Forensic and Analytical Services for NamUs at the University of NorthTexas Health Science Center in Fort Worth.
You can search a missing person, the case information, circumstances and descriptions. "We really want to reach families because we need them to participate in the search, " Spamer went on to say.
Sometimes the smallest piece of information entered into the database could make a match. "We have had cases connected by something as simple as a duffle bag, or a set of car keys."
Currently there are more than 50 missing people from Bexar County in the database as well as 26 others who are unidentified.

Town seeking input on improvements as part of grant process

http://www.eagletimes.com/news/2017-08-16/Local/Town_seeking_input_on_improvements_as_part_of_gran.html
WEATHERSFIELD — The town of Weathersfield and the Southern Windsor County Regional Planning Commission will hold a public meeting at the Highway Garage on Aug. 31 in order to hear from citizens about what would make Weathersfield a better place to live.
In December, the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development (VACCD) announced its award of $8,807 to Weathersfield as part of a municipal planning grant.

According to VAADC, “Weathersfield will obtain expert assistance to help develop a plan and strategies to leverage recent water system improvements to attract new businesses to its two village centers,” through the grant. The total project cost is $9,210, and will fund a planning process.

At a Weathersfield Selectboard meeting on July 17, the board announced that a survey conducted in November indicated that respondents were in favor of village revitalization. A second survey, which will be distributed in September and October, will attempt to determine “what revitalization actually means to those who respond.”
Surveys will be available to both visitors and residents, who can weigh in on what is already favorable in Weathersfield, what is missing, and what type of revitalization they’d like to see in the town. Surveys will be at the library, the Weathersfield Inn, the Town Office, and at least one location in Perkinsville that is to be determined.
Following the village center workshops and the fall surveys, each village center will have a second workshop. The results of the surveys and public meetings will be compiled as an addendum to the town plan, with a public meeting on the findings to follow. A draft of updates to the town plan is slated for March, and a review with the planning commission is planned for April. Grant activities are scheduled to be complete in May.

Police pursue driver of stolen pickup truck

https://dailyuv.com/news/918870
Tuesday, August 22, 2017
SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — Police are actively seeking the driver of a stolen pickup truck who was involved in a chase across state lines Tuesday morning.
According to Springfield Police Chief Doug Johnston, a black pickup truck with black rims and Massachusetts plates was stolen from the Exit 7 rest stop near the Circle K convenience store sometime between 6 and 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Johnston said the truck was later spotted in New Hampshire, where police initiated a pursuit that led back into Springfield and up Route 5 before turning onto Route 143. He said police discontinued the pursuit due to excessive speeds. The truck was last seen heading toward Weathersfield.
Police are working with the vehicle’s owner and are reviewing video surveillance footage from the rest stop.
“They have an idea who’s responsible for stealing it,” Johnston said.
Anyone who has seen a vehicle matching the above description can call the Springfield Police Department at (802) 885-2113.
