Weathersfield News, Week of May 12, 2014

What a glorious Mother's Day weekend... it didn't start off very well with clouds and showers first thing Saturday, but after it cleared around noon, what wonderful weather we had!

I've gotten lots of work done around the farm, now that the weather is cooperating. All the fields have been dragged and seeded. Almost all the fencing is done in the pastures. Only one left to go that I am hoping to get done today. All the stalls have been cleaned, inside animals moved around, the outside pig enclosure is cleaned and fences started going back up. Soon the pigs will be outside!

Friday night all the girls and their boyfriends took Mike & I out for Mother's Day dinner.

Sunday morning Mother's Day Breakfast plan A didn't materialize, so, impromptu, the whole crowd of us went to my brother & sister-in-laws and we all made breakfast! Thank you for hosting and cooking, John & Bette; Josh, Ashlee, Ellen, Matt, Grandma Ruth, Grampa Roger, Mike; (sigh, I just know I'm going to leave someone out :(  Mumsy & Bernie, Bev & Bernie, Pat, Ashley (& Regan), Emma, Sue, Dan, Sandy, Janet, Joe, Abi, Sam, Eli, Jet. Everyone had a wonderful time and plenty to eat! It amazes me, every time -even when pulling our plans together at the last minute- how much cooperation, food and what a great time we have doing it all together. It was a wonderful morning.

Ashley (& Regan), Pat (and Emma) came to the farm after and helped Mike and I work all day. It was a very long, warm, productive day. Finished by having dinner together at Country Creemee. I was exhausted after the weekend of working, non-stop it felt!  But it's starting to look much better around here after the long, cold, snowy winter. (So very glad old Man Winter went into hibernation for the summer :)

A few dates to mark on your calendars:

Green Up Weathersfield is still going on. If you need bags, please call Steve Aikenhead at 263-5439. The roads are already beginning to look better!

Friday, May 16 at 6:00 pm is the Kiss a Pig Fundraiser and Bar-B-Q at the Weathersfield Proctor Library. There are 12 individuals to choose from. You put your dollar bills in the box of the person you want to see kiss the pig! Each dollar equals one vote. The more $ the more votes for that person!  It is a fundraiser for the Library expansion. Who will kiss the pig? Come by, place your vote ($) and see!!!  (If the weather is bad, the fundraiser will be moved to the Weathersfield Town Office/Martin Memorial Hall, 4 buildings down from the Library on Route 5, going north!)

Saturday, May 24-May 26 is Memorial Day Weekend. I'm sure there is going to be more information on the service at the Perkinsville Green coming out soon.

Tuesday, May 27th at 7 pm at West Weathersfield Volunteer Fire Department is the next Weathersfield Fire Commission meeting. It is open to the public and all are invited to attend.

Thursday, May 29th at 6:30 pm the Weathersfield Proctor Library is hosting the 25th annual Night of 1,000 Stars! Readers have been invited to read 5 to 7 minutes of their favorite book. So far, confirmed for this year, are: Susan Whittemore, Pat Daniels, Jeff Pelton, and Mary Beth Gruhn Main. Posters will be showing up around town. Refreshments will be provided.

Would you like to read at Night of 1,000 Stars? There are only two requirements: You must reside in Weathersfield and you must not have read before. It's a one shot deal. Please let us know if you would like to have your name put on the list as a future reader for the Night of 1,000 Stars program.

Saturday, May 31 at 2 pm the Weathersfield School is presenting "Treasure Island".  I don't have any more details at this time, so will send them along as I get them.

The weather forecast for this week looks promising... high of 40% chance of showers. That means much more work to be done outside! At this point, even a rainy day would help me catch up on chores in the house!

Belated Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms (and Mom's to be)! Enjoy each moment with your children, all your children, two-legged or four. Life is short, intense and extremely wonderful!
