Gordon Robert Stoodley, 77

WEATHERSFIELD — Gordon Robert Stoodley, 77, of Weathersfield, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor after a long illness, surrounded by family. Gordon was born May 29, 1938, the son of the late Kenneth and Marie (Therberge) Stoodley.

Gordon married Sheila Martell on May 21, 1988. Together they spent 27 years happily married. Gordon enjoyed hunting, taking his two dogs for rides on back roads, making soup and other foods for his family and mowing his lawn. He was a big fan of New England sports teams. Gordon had a great sense of humor, inspiring many funny photos! He loved when his family and friends stopped to visit. Gordon worked for many years and retired from Bryant Grinder Corporation.

Members of his surviving family include his loving wife, Sheila; his daughter, Lori LaPlante and her husband, Ron, of Weathersfield; two sons, Robert Stoodley and his wife, Sharon, of Claremont and Randy Stoodley and his wife, Doreen, of Weathersfield; two stepdaughters, Dawn Wikle and her husband, Tom, of Nashville, Georgia and Penny Davis and her husband, Scott, of Claremont; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan St., in Claremont, with Pastor Mike Boy of the Ascutney Union Church officiating. Committal will follow at Ascutneyville Cemetery.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Ascutney Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 91, Ascutney, VT 05030.
