Mt. Ascutney Base Lodge Being Consumed by Fire

Took this about ten minutes ago. Still smoking with a flame once and awhile. The base lodge was deemed to be unsound for fire fighters to go into the building to fight the fire. So they are pouring water on it as best the can. Its going to be smoldering for awhile. But its contained! Whats more important is the poor fire fighters fighting this in this weather. You all rock!

If you ever find a dead animal with quills like this.

Do not handle it, or bring it home and let your friends or family handle it.

If an animal has porcupine quills stuck in it like this there is a good chance it is rabid.

In this case it was tested and was rabid.

Now the family that handled it is going through rabies protocols with their doctor.

Snow Saturday, Transition to Freezing Rain and Rain Sunday

Lake effect snow showers moving through this morning then our attention turns to a winter storm for Tomorrow night and Sunday morning.

Meteorologist Josh Cingranelli has a complete breakdown right now on Local 22 or on Local 44 at 7.
Good morning Winter Storm Watches are posted for parts of VT, NY, and NH this morning in front of tomorrow nights winter storm.

Here's a look at our expected snowfall map, the highest totals will likely be in the Northeast Kingdom where temperatures stay coldest.

Snow will transition to freezing rain and rain by Sunday morning.

Therefor there is a bit of an icing concern as well.

I have complete details right now on Local 22 or tune into Local 44 at 7 AM.

Potential of Significant Accumulations of Snow and Ice

NWS: "A Winter Storm Watch has been posted for much of the region Saturday evening into Sunday morning for the potential of significant accumulations of snow and ice (see attached graphic).

Highest confidence for heavier accumulations in our area to occur across eastern Vermont and the eastern slopes of the Adirondacks in New York.

Somewhat lighter accumulations are expected elsewhere, including the Champlain Valley.

Temperatures will climb above freezing by late morning or early afternoon Sunday, changing the precipitation to light drizzle or light rain."
