Mildred H. “Millie” Jarvis, 83, a long time resident of Ascutney, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, January 19, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She died peacefully with her daughters at her side.

Millie was born January 10, 1933 in St. Johnsbury, and was the daughter of Della May Higgins. She received her schooling in Weathersfield and graduated from Springfield High School in 1950.

 She married Richard N. Jarvis on December 28, 1957, and they were married 55 years until Dick passed away unexpectedly in 2012. Millie and Dick built their home in Ascutney, and moved there in 1963. She was employed at Joy Manufacturing Company in Claremont, at Cone Blanchard Machine Tool Company in Windsor, and she worked at the Ascutney Post Office until retirement in 2012.

Millie enjoyed tending to her magnificent flower gardens, listening to country music, barn dances and helping others. Millie especially loved spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, her mother and her brother, Irving Eaton.

Survivors include her daughters: Jean Bridgmon of Plant City, FL, Linda Wright and her husband, Jeffery of Wolcott, VT, and Lori Crane and her daughter, Olivia of Orlando, FL, her step-daughter, Cheryl McDerment and her husband, Herman of Ascutney, her sisters Cynthia Eaton and her husband, Bill of Fair Haven VT, and Della May Richmond of Forest Grove, OR, her brother Dick Richmond and his wife, Beverly of Keene, NH, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Both calling hours and funeral services will be at Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. Friends and family may visit on Monday evening, January 25th from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with funeral services at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 26. Committal services will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date in the Ascutneyville Cemetery in Ascutney.

  1. RIP Millie....I so enjoyed working with you years ago and always loved running into you at the stores and catching up on each others lives..Heaven has another great angel.
