Henry David Vashaw Sr., 75, of Raymond Place in Claremont, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at his home, following a period of failing health. He was born Dec. 13, 1939, in Berlin, New Hampshire, the son of Harry L. Sr. and Annie M. (Belanger) Vashaw and had been a longtime Claremont resident. He was one of the original lifetime members of the New Hampshire Antique Tractor Club and was a lifetime member of the New Hampshire Hunting Association. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, logger and truck driver and retired from Charlestown Redi-Mix.
Henry enjoyed collecting cars, trucks, his 1939 John Deere Tractor, camping, boating, trains, horseshoes, visiting his hometown of Berlin, New Hampshire and the White Mountains. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Members of his family include, his wife, Barbara (Small) Vashaw of Claremont, whom he married June 16, 1962; four daughters, Joanie Davis of Claremont, Corina Sprague of Claremont, Donna Trombley and her husband, David, of Ashland, New Hampshire and April Shepard and her husband, Rob, of Newport; a son, Henry D. Vashaw Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Claremont; his dog and best friend, Pebbles; 11 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; eight sisters, Pauline Ferris of Charlestown, Barbara LaFrance of Newbury, Louise Biron of Goffstown, New Hampshire, Carol Ackerman of Newport, Maryann Cummings of Goshen, Tammie Lapine of Goshen, Cathy Sampson, Goshen and Ann Roy of Newport; a brother, Raymond Vashaw of Weathersfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Cholette; and two brothers, Harry L. Vashaw Jr. and Dennis R. Vashaw.
In keeping with Henry’s wishes, there will be no visiting hours or services at this time. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Connecticut Valley Homecare/Hospice, 958 John Stark Highway, Newport, NH 03773.
