Niagara Bottling company has just released a voluntary recall announcement, covering 14 brands of bottled water, due to an outbreak of E. Coli bacteria.
Springs in Hamburg and Allentown, Pennsylvania, had “positive indication” that their spring was contaminated, but failed to warn Niagara before distribution. While Niagara has cut ties with those springs, they do not know how wide ranging the contamination may reach.
Brands effected are Acadia, Acme, Big Y, Best Yet, 7-11, Niagara, Nature’s Place, Pricerite, Superchill, Morning Fresh, Shaw’s, Shoprite, Western Beef Blue and Wegman’s. Officials are recommending boiling your bottled water first, or avoid it altogether.
This is yet more evidence of how dangerous the bottled water phenomenon is. Between massive droughts, fading aquifers, and contamination of water tables, it is becoming more and more important to research how your water consumption can make a difference, both positively and negatively.
