July and August Happenings at the Weathersfield Proctor Library
July and August
Happenings at Your Library
There's a new face at the library - Karin Fischer, Library Assistant. Please stop by and welcome Karin! She is a great reader, so ask her for some book recommendations. She will be working on InterLibrary Loans, statistics and helping at the main desk.
Summer Reading Program
June 25 - August 8, 2014
We are getting ready to "FIZZ, BOOM, READ!" at the library this summer. That is the Summer Reading Program title for kids grade 5 and under. But the fun doesn't stop there - teens can "Spark a Reaction" and adults will find "Literary Elements" their own Summer Reading Program. After all, why should the kids have all the fun? Registration begins June 25th at the library or online at http://wplsummerreadingprogram.blogspot.com/

Library Expansion
Project Update
On June 18, 2014 Library Board Members Ernie Shand and Nancy McMenemy, along with Ralph Mintz, NBF Architects, met with representatives from Vermont Agency of Community Development. After viewing the site and the plans, the library has been determined to be a good candidate for an ADA accessibility grant. The Library Board is moving forward with the application for that grant, which could be between $30,000 and $75,000.
Efficiency Vermont is also now working with NBF Architects and is reviewing the proposed expansion plans for possible monetary incentives to be granted for the purchase and installation of the library's heating, ventilation and cooling systems (HVAC).
The library board is also exploring other grant opportunities with:
Christopher and Dana Reeves Foundation, Quality of Life Grant (for ADA accessibility)
Gladys Brooks Foundation Grant
Tarrant Foundation Grant
Vermont Arts Council Cultural Facilities Grant
Bond amount reduced - the proposed bond amount is now at $1.1 million dollars, a reduction of $200,000. Details on the reduction can be found here.
*** Important Information
about Expansion Bond***
The bond bank requires the full cost of the project to be listed in the bond article with the words "less and grants or other funding sources." This means that the monies raised by both fundraising and from the taxpayers which total over $150,0000 cannot be deducted from the cost of the project BEFORE the bond article passes. The monies can be deducted, (if the bond article passes) along with any grants received AFTER the bond article passes - thereby reducing the total $1.1 million figure.
Signatures are needed! DEADLINE JULY 7, 2014(we would like to turn them in by July 2, 2014 because the Town Office will be closed for July 4th holiday)
The Weathersfield Proctor Library Bond Petition is available to sign at the library or contact a library board member if you can't get to the library. The petition reads:
"We the undersigned voters of the Town of Weathersfield petition to have the following article submitted by Australian ballot to the qualified voters of Weathersfield at a Special Meeting of the Town to be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014"
"Shall the general obligation bonds of the Town of Weathersfield, Vermont in an amount not to exceed ONE MILLION, ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1,100,000), less any grants or other funding sources, be issued for the purpose of financing the cost of making certain public improvements at the Weathersfield Proctor Library, including constructing an addition onto the exisiting library building, such improvements estimated at a cost of One Million, One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($1,100,000).
Signing the petition is not voting for the article, the petition will add the article to the ballot to be voted on Tuesday August 26, 2014.
Absentee ballots will be available starting the week of July 14, 2014. If you might be out of town on Aug 26th be sure to pick up an absentee ballot.
