A White River man was taken to the hospital and a Claremont woman
were arrested after a pursuit which began in Windsor VT. Police say
Windsor Police had an encounter a vehicle in a parking area off RT 5 in
Windsor.
During the encounter one officer discharged his duty weapon and
shot the driver Jose Burgos 34 driver of White River Junction in the
arm.
Burgos with his passenger Britney Smith 25, of Claremont fled and
the Windsor and Weathersfield Police Departments pursued his vehicle
into Claremont Spike strips were deployed by Claremont PD but were
unsuccessful. However Burgos was stopped on North Street.
Burgos had an active arrest warrant from Windsor County VT for Escape
and Brittany Smith had two active arrest warrants from NH for Sale of
Heroin and Identity Fraud. Smith was arrested by Claremont Police
Department, Claremont NH and Burgos was taken to DHMC for non life
threatening injuries.
The officer involved shooting is under investigation by VT State
Police and the VT State Attorney General’s Office. The officers involved
in the shooting will not be identified, at this time. Chief William
Sampson, Windsor Police Chief, advised the officers involved in this
shooting incident were placed on administrative leave.
The law
enforcement officers, responding to and involved in this incident, were
uninjured.
