SPRINGFIELD - Frances Louise Balch, 88, passed away on Monday, December
10, 2014, at the Springfield Hospital. She was born January 5, 1926, in
Weathersfield, Vermont, the daughter of Walter and Julia ( Bryant )
Murray. She attended Springfield Schools and graduated from Springfield
High School.
Fran started working for W.T. Grant while in High School and worked
until the store closed. She then worked as a Bookkeeper at Wheelers
Pharmacy in Springfield until her retirement.
On January 21, 1948, Fran married Kenneth Balch at the Rectory of St.
Mary's Church.
She and Kenny were active in the Springfield Moose and the Springfield
V.F.W.
They entertained friends and family at their camp on the Connecticut
River for many years.
She was active in the Catholic Daughters of America, and an active
member of St. Mary's Church all her life.
She leaves her husband, Kenneth Balch, of 66 years; one brother, Robert
Murray of Perkinsville; and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers Richard, James and
John Murray; and three sisters Margaret Bromley, Helen Devereaux and
Mary Harlow.
A Catholic Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday December 18,
2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Springfield. The Rev. Peter
Williams, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Mary's
Cemetery in the spring.
Friends may call at the Davis Memorial Chapel on Thursday morning from
9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
