Weathersfield News, Week of June 30, 2014

What another beautiful weekend. Summer is certainly here :) I've been riding horses, lawnmowers and weeding the garden!

Thanks to my husband arriving just as I was giving up, the garden is finally, completely, planted. The pigs LOVED the weeds we pulled. We only planted about half the garden we usually have, but it will be more than enough this year. No potatoes or corn. Tomatoes, zucchini, summer squash, peppers, cucumbers, two kinds of lettuce and pumpkins!

Baby Regan will be two weeks old by the time you are reading this! Where has the time gone!!! She is absolutely adorable and wonderful! I'm so in love with this little girl!  It so makes me remember the early days when my girls were young... I miss those days - a little. It's nice to not have to worry about feeding, changing, naps, etc. I get to come and go as I please. I look forward to babysitting for the first time this week!

Not much going on in Weathersfield. End of the fiscal year, Fourth of July on Friday! Whew!  Where has the year gone??? We are more than half way through, already.

~Running Bear will once again be putting on a SPECTACULAR Fireworks show Friday July 4th. This is open to the public. Admission is $5 per adult (16 and over). You will get to listen to WISEGUYS on the stage and at dusk see a kick butt fireworks display. Some say the BEST in the area. Bring you own lawn chair or blanket and ENJOY! SEE YOU THERE!

~Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Weathersfield Food Shelf will now be open every Thursday beginning July 3,2014 from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM.

~ Beginning on July 1st, the cost to purchase punch tickets for use at the Weathersfield Transfer Station will increase to $12.50 for a 5 punch ticket and $25.00 for a 10 punch ticket. These prices reflect an increase in the price of a punch from $2.00 to $2.50.

In October, 2012, due to a significant budget surplus in the Solid Waste Fund, the Weathersfield Select Board decided to temporarily reduce the sale price of Punch Cards. Beginning on November 1, 2012, newly purchased Punch Cards began selling for the following reduced prices: 5 punch, $10.00 and 10 punch, $20.00. These prices reflected the temporary decrease in the price of a punch from $2.50 to $2.00. At the time, we thought that this temporarily price reduction would only last for a half year but we were fortunate to be able to continue it for a year and a half.

Existing Punch Cards which have already been purchased for $10.00 and $20.00 may continue to be used after July 1.

~It's official! Red Barn Bakery Cafe has been purchased by Bev and Josh Savage. They will be open for business on Tuesday July 1st at 6 A.M.

~The Ascutney Farm Stand is now Open for the Season! New hours Starting July 1st are: Tuesday - Sunday 9-6

We have in now Fresh home made bread and apple cider doughnuts. From the garden we have lettuce, spinach, swiss chard and more.

Have a safe and fun Fourth of July. Keep your sunscreen on to prevent burns and enjoy the gorgeous summer weather! I know I am
