Lorraine Zigman
is a life-long Vermonter with a deep interest in history and no
tolerance for discrimination of any kind.
In recent years she decided
to research the workings of the "Underground Railroad" in Vermont which
was formed of abolitionists and others who worked diligently and under
cover to provide homes and businesses as safe harbors for former slaves
who were fleeing to Canada along various routes north in Vermont.
If
they reached their goal, they were out of reach of the notorious bounty
hunters who were paid to capture and return them to their former owners
in the southern states.
It has been an interesting odyssey for her
researching how former slaves accomplished their freedom, and those who
aided them in their endeavors.
Come and hear her talk on this
interesting subject on Sunday, May 22, 2016, 2:00 p.m. at Martin Hall
in Ascutney, Vermont.
