Shirley A. Alflen, 77

WINDSOR — Shirley A. Alflen, 77, of Thrasher Road in Windsor, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon following a period of failing health. She was born Oct. 11, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Ann (Visi) Bergen and had been a longtime area resident.

Shirley had been employed for many years by J.C. Penney in Claremont. Following her retirement, Shirley volunteered countless hours at Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Virgil Barber. Shirley enjoyed traveling, painting and line dancing.

Members of her family include her husband, Ronald Alflen of Windsor; a son, Robert Alflen of Ascutney; two daughters, Denise Kaplin of North Kingstown, Rhode Island and Audrey Alflen of Concord, New Hampshire; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at St. Joseph’s Church, with the Rev. Shawn M. Therrien officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Windsor. Friends may call at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan St., in Claremont on Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until the funeral procession leaves for the church.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contribution be made to either Mt. Ascutney Hospital Volunteer Fund, 289 County Road, Windsor, VT 05089; or The Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
