Springfield, Vt. — Roger W.
Eastman 90, passed away Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 in Springfield. He was
born Oct. 23, 1923 in Newport, N.H. the son of Leighton and Bertha (
Webster ) Eastman. He attended Springfield schools and graduated from
Springfield High School and the Co-oP Course class of 1942.
Roger served in the United States Navy during
WW II in the South Pacific as a U.S. Navy Aviation Machinist and Aerial
Gunner. He served on the Anzio CV57 Carrier.
He married Doris Ilene Graham and they had five
children together, She predeceased him. He was later married to
Marian Van Hoesen.
He was employed with the Fellows Gear Shaper in
Springfield and in 1947 He began farming on the family farm in
Weathersfield. He was also an agent and sold tires and supplies for the
Vermont Farm Bureau Safe Mart for 33 years.
Roger was a Life member of the V.F.W. Post 771,
served as Post Commander and District 2 Commander and was a life member
of CVE Carrier Association.
He was a member of the Springfield Moose Lodge,
the Springfield Elks Lodge, the Windsor American Legion, a member of
the Perkinsville Grange since 1946. He was President of the Windsor
County Farm Bureau, Vice President of Vermont Farm Bureau, President of
Windsor County Field Day, and Chairman of Windsor County ASCS. He served
on the Weathersfield School Board for seven years as Treasurer and
Chairman, served for many years on the Zoning Board of Adjustment for
Weathersfield, and served many years on the Weathersfield Board of Civil
Authority.
He was the oldest living veteran in Weatherfield, Vt.
He is survived by Two Sons, Gary D. Eastman,
and Leighton J. Eastman; Two Daughters, Ilene Curtis, and Suzanne
Simonds all of Weathersfield, Vt; Step-daughter, Nan Reed of Lebanon,
N.H. and step-son John Van Hoesen of Cuttingsville, Vt. Former wife
Marian Eastman, Longtime Companion Cheryl Wilder of Springfield and many
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Doris, and by one son Roger G. Eastman.
Friends may call at the Davis Memorial Chapel
on Wednesday evening Sept. 17, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A graveside
service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday Sept.
18, 2014 at the Plain Cemetery in Perkinsville, Vt. Reverend Gerry Piper
will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
