Officials say a 3-alarm fire broke out at a lumber mill in Weathersfield around 8 p.m. Sunday.
Dispatchers said at least 10 departments were called from around the area to the fire on Stoughton Pond Road. Around 50 firefighters were on scene.
The Weathersfield fire chief said there was heavy fire and smoke in a
back corner where a loader had been on a battery charger. The charger
may have shorted, but investigators are still working out the exact
cause.
The chief said they had the fire out within the first 45 minutes, but smoke and heat had damaged much of the building. He said heavy smoke and gas, and several heavy doors, made it hard to vent the building. He said that took several hours.
The fire is not considered suspicious right now.
No injuries were reported.
