Marianne I Buckingham, 92


Marianne I. “Max” Buckingham, 92, died Feb. 18, 2017, at the home of her caregiver, Kathleen Fellows, in Perkinsville.

She was born Feb. 26, 1924, in Bad Godesburg, Germany, the daughter of Friedrich and Else ( David) Sell. She emigrated to the United States with her family in 1938 as refugees fleeing the Nazis.

She graduated in 1946 from Mount Holyoke College in in South Hadley, Massachusetts, where she majored in zoology.

On June 14, 1947, she married Eliot “ Bucky” Buckingham.

Mrs. Buckingham was active in the Santa Claus Club, sang in the Springfield Community Chorus and was a member of the Congregational Church.

She enjoyed international travel, was an avid reader and supporter of arts and music.

Survivors include four children, Lynn Meins, Stephen, Christine Rolland and Glenn; s i x grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband and her sister, Cornelia Abelman.

There will be no services. Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
